Structured paperboard new in trend

(Fuerth, Germany). In 2011 the Wickels high quality paper coating and finishing company (Fürth) are to revive a company tradition: Non-coated, non-laminated paperboard with embossed structuring.

Since 1902 Wickels has been known for metal paper processing. But it has also followed another tradition: the embossing of natural paperboard.

"The look and feel produced by these technologies is currently in trend – or nearly in trend", explained Wickels CEO Dr. Marcus Vogler. Now is the ideal time to reintroduce paperboard embossments to the market: "With our technology we can produce specific fabric-looks in addition to geometrical patterning. There is currently a big demand for these."

In principle, any paperboard or paper can be embossed, e.g. for book covers or for patterning on perfume packaging. Structured paperboard is ecologically safe, robust and has good grip properties. Wickels has access to 60 different embossment patterns and can process grammages of up to approx. 350gr/qm at standard widths of 700-760 mm.
